Xero is a cloud-based accounting platform that UK small businesses use to run their day-to-day finances online. Bank feeds connect to your Xero account automatically, invoices and bills sit in one place, and the same login works on a desktop, on a phone, or sitting next to your accountant on a Tuesday afternoon. There is nothing to install and no annual upgrade.
Subscriptions start at £15 a month for the Ignite plan and run up to £59 a month for Ultimate, with most of our small business clients on Grow or Comprehensive in between. The platform suits sole traders, limited companies, landlords, charities and accountants themselves. Xero has been HMRC-recognised for Making Tax Digital since 2019, so VAT returns submit straight from your file in two clicks. From April 2026 the same applies to Income Tax for sole traders and landlords above the £50,000 threshold (MTD for ITSA), and Xero is on HMRC's recognised list for that too.
