Everyone knows that running a business is hard enough without having to remember the deadlines for the different returns required by HMRC. That is why weve put a quick list of the key dates for 2016 you MUST remember and links to the HMRC website to make your life easier!
5th April 2016
Last day of the 2015/16 tax year. Deadline for claiming your PAYE tax refund for the 2011.12 tax year and deadline for claiming tax overpaid for the 2011/12 tax year under Self Assessment.
6th April 2016
Time to gather detailed documents for your 2015/16 tax return, if you’re self-employed or have income from property in the year ended 15th April 2016.
31st May 2016
Copies of 2015/2016 P60 documents issued to employees.
6th July 2016
Copies of 2015/16 P11d documents issued to employees.
31st July 2016
Deadline for second self assessed payments for tax year ending 5th April 2016.
- If in 2015/16 this is the first time you are submitting your tax return, then this doesn’t apply to you.
- If you have sent in a tax return already then depending on your tax position from the previous year will depend on whether or not you will have to pay a second payment on the account.
5th October 2016
Normal deadline to register with the HMRC if you became self-employed or started receiving income from property. You should submit a form CWF1 for self- employment or SA1 for non-self employed income to HMRC.
31st October 2016
Deadline for paper submissions of self-assessment tax returns for the year ended 5th April 2016. Paper tax returns need to be in by this date or you could be fined but you still have until 31st January 2017 to file online.
30th December 2016
Send your online self assessment return by 30th December 2016 if you want HMRC to collect your 2015/16 tax liability (up to £3,000) via future years PAYE tax code, this is intended to
